Professional Sports Teams

If there is one thing that Torontonians love, it is sports. With professional hockey, baseball, basketball, and football teams, Toronto is a true sports city.

Without a doubt, the favorite sports team in Toronto is the beloved Maple Leafs franchise. Whether in their old Maple Leaf Gardens, or playing in the new Air Canada Centre, the Toronto Maple Leafs regularly have a capacity crowd to cheer them on. They may not have won a Stanley Cup championship since the 1960s, but people still cheer them on enthusiastically. When they are in the playoffs everything stands still as people watch the game, which means that it can be hard to find a taxi. Toronto sports fans are a dedicated bunch, especially when it comes to hockey.

The most successful of Toronto's sports teams has been the Toronto Argonauts, affectionately known as the Argos for short. The CFL football team has dominated many seasons of play and brought home several Grey Cups. They are such a popular team in the league, players may need a professional resume writing service just to get a try out!

The greatest set of sports victories in Toronto were the back to back World Series championships won by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1994. It was the first time that a team outside the United States had ever won the championship, and with Montreal losing their Expos, Toronto may be the only team to ever accomplish that feat. It was such a great moment in Toronto's history, some would would do anything to see it again, many would even trade in their condo if Toronto could win a third World Series.

The Toronto Raptors are the only professional team in Toronto without a championship. It's not clear what they need to get the job done, whether it's good luck, better players, Toronto fans are willing to try anything to see a better results from their basketball team.

The latest addition to the Toronto sports portfolio is the Toronto FC, a professional soccer team playing in Major League Soccer. The team has attracted a loyal following and although their attendance is not as high as the Argos, Toronto FC have made significant inroads into establishing soccer as a professional sport in Toronto, having brought home championships and hosted an all-star game. Live iPods, smartphones and augmented reality, they are just part of a 21st century modernization.
